Fünf normale und fünf arthritische Lendenwirbel. Ein Satz ist normal und ist typisch für einen jungen Erwachsenen. Der zweite Satz ist arthritisch, typisch für einen älteren Erwachsenen oder einer Person mit einer Geschichte von schwerer Arbeit (oder beides). Die Kanten der Wirbelkörper sind scharf und unregelmäßig. Jedes Set wird in der Mitte mit einem Stab auf einem modifizierten sacrum montiert, so dass die Wirbel und Bandscheiben leicht demontiert werden können.

Five normal and five arthritic lumbar vertebrae. One set is normal and is typical of a young adult who has experienced no unusual back trauma. The edges of the vertebral bodies are smooth and regular in shape. One set is osteoarthritic, which is typical of an older adult or a person with a history of heavy labor (or both). The edges of the vertebral bodies are sharp and irregular. Bony outgrowths (osteophytes) are present.
Each display set is mounted on a modified sacrum with a rod down the center, allowing the vertebrae and intervertebral discs to be removed and replaced easily.
