The ilium, categorized as a flat, or tabular, bone, is the winglike piece of the innominate. The ilium can be distinguished from the scapula, which has a similar flatness, by its greater thickness and more rounded contours. This set also includes the mandible (right and left), humerus, rib, femur and tibia. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of mid-fetal (second trimester) development.
