The female golden eagle is significantly larger than the male, as is typical of most birds of prey. Effective hunters, they prefer areas providing strong updrafts to best support their aerial skills. It's estimated that they can generate speeds of 150 mph in steep dives on prey. Pairs mate for life and hunt cooperatively.
