Gorilla gorilla
Male Gorilla Left Hand (Life Cast).
Male gorilla left hand life cast. All life casts are molded and cast from original specimens. The male gorilla life casts and thw gorilla skeleton, SC-028, are cast from the same gorilla.
The gorilla hand is characterized by four long curved fingers and an opposable thumb (also known as a pollex). Gorillas engage in quadrupedal knuckle-walking, where the fingers are curled up into a fist and the dorsal aspect of the fingers makes contact with the ground. In most primates, the distal tips of the fingers are covered with flat nails and the palmer (the palm side) surface of the hands is covered with dermatoglyphics (fingerprints). This life cast of a male gorilla hand would be a wonderful addition to any primatology, anthropology or zoology program. Please see life casts of other primate hands, including a human hand: LC-17.
