Marsh Slug
Deroceras laeve
Life-size model.
26 mm long. Habitat: permanently wet habitats such as watercourse margins, swamps, swamp forests and floodplains. The Marsh Slugl makes particularly frequent use of its ability to rope itself down on a long thread of mucus in order to escape threatening exposure to sunlight and desiccation. It is the only land snail that voluntarily enters water and can live submerged for days.
In greenhouses, the species can cause extreme damage.
