Loggerhead Turtle
Caretta caretta
Loggerhead Sea Turtle Skull.
Found in large numbers in the Atlantic from Florida to the Carolinas, loggerhead sea turtles are considered threatened, due to the over hunting for food. They possess a huge head for the size of their body although their brain capacity is small. This large head is necessary to house very large muscles used to close the jaws, enabling them to crush hard-shelled prey such as oysters, clams and crabs. Licensed to Bone Clones® by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, a portion of the sales goes to further their work. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
