Black Spider Monkey Skull
The spider monkey, which can be found in the Amazon rainforest, gets its name from the length of its spindly limbs. Weighing about 20 pounds, it grows to a length of 15-22 inches. Its prehensile tail, which is two to three feet long, can be used to hang from a tree in order to reach an outlying flower bud. It is also sensitive and flexible enough to pick a nut off the ground. Nearly always in the trees, they move across branches by running on all fours or by swinging from branch to branch in a hand over hand motion. When on the ground, they sometimes walk on their hind legs. They communicate across distances with members of their group by making a "whinnying" sound, and signal danger with a barking noise. They have the largest brain of all monkeys, relative to their body size. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
