Hoplophoneus occidentalis
Cat-like Hoplophoneus occidentalis Skull in matrix
Hoplophoneus occidentalis was one of the largest Nimravids of the Oligocene, approaching that of the extant jaguar. This is a cat-like animal similar to saber-toothed cats. It is a very rare species. This particular specimen was cast in matrix, using stone-like casting materials to simulate the weight and appearance of the original. We are grateful to the Babiarz Institute of Paleontological Studies for the opportunity to cast this individual. 1-part skull (cranium and jaw cast as one piece).
