Female Bonobo Pelvis and Femur
Pan paniscus
Female Bonobo Pelvis and Femur
Pelvis and femur cast from a female, 9-year-old bonobo. The bonobo (Pan paniscus) is a species distinct from the "common" chimpanzee (P. troglodytes). Bonobos appear to live in a female-dominated society, one in which males inherit their social status from their mothers. Bonobos are known for their sexual behavior; their casual sexual activity occurs in all combinations (female-female, male-female, male-male, juvenile-adult). These brief encounters often occur around the sharing of food or other occasions during which aggression could arise. It has been suggested that their sexual activity allows them to avoid conflict.
This set is cast from the Bonobo Skeleton (SC-123-A). We offer other individual bones and sets from the skeleton. We also offer such sets for our other primate skeletons.
If you have a preference of right or left side femur, let us know. Otherwise, we will choose.
