Adhesives

Dermocoll

Adhesive paste for dermoplastics and taxidermy.
Special adhesive for taxidermists:
  • Produced according to an old, modified recipe from largely non-toxic substances.
  • Resistant to ageing
  • Water-soluble
  • Pleasant consistency (like soft clay, is applied with spatula)
  • No premature setting, which allows quiet work
  • Dried spots are sprayed with a little tap water and thus shortly returned to their original state.
  • Perfectly preserved skins can be applied entirely without needling.
  • Contamination with DERMOCOLL can be easily washed off or brushed out of the hair when dry.
  • Practically indefinitely storable, no fungal growth occurs; through storage, the plastic properties of DERMOCOLL are even improved.

Processing instructions for DERMOCOLL

Storage:
DERMOCOLL can be stored almost indefinitely! With well closed containers, an improvement in the plastic properties of the adhesive paste even occurs after some time, which is why a larger supply should always be kept in stock. In the case of opened containers, the surface of the paste may dry up during processing. Light spraying with tap water will soon restore all dry spots to their original condition. When not in use, the containers must be consistently closed! Fungal growth, which used to occur regularly in almost every dermoplastics glue, no longer occurs under normal processing conditions.

Application on manikins:
These must be free of grease, dust and waterproof (if necessary shellac!) before DERMOCOLL is applied. DERMOCOLL is applied very thinly with a narrow stucco trowel or an appropriate other trowel tool. A layer of max. 1 mm thickness is sufficient up to the size of a medium-sized ruminant. In the case of large dermoplastics, only the area that can be processed in one piece is pre-glued to simplify processing. Dried glue application is by lightly spraying with tap water in a short time again to get completely sticky.

Skin gluing:
If possible, the skin is very well spun out or but dripped overnight and dried completely drip-free on the leather side with cellulose and then covered. Trapped air bubbles are massaged out and then the seams are closed. After the seams have been closed, intensive massaging is used to achieve an intimate bond between the skin and the model. The best results are achieved with perfectly preserved skins that have been mineral tanned and "neutralized" to a final pH value of max. 4.5 - 5.0. Distortion-free tanned skins can be applied without any needling at all!

Cleaning:
All contamination with DERMOCOLL on fur, tools and hands can be removed with warm water without problems. If in the seam area in the fur light DERMOCOLL traces should be dried, then these can be removed in all rule also in dry condition with an animal hair comb, without these glue traces must be softened additionally once again.

Quality of the adhesion:
With consistent adherence to the processing instructions the so-called "Drumming effect" belongs completely to the past! Since DERMOCOLL does not contain any glue components that polimerize or coagulate due to the influence of air, work can be carried out calmly and without hectic even when covering the body model, since there is no need to fear premature setting or hardening of DERMOCOLL!

Note:
Due to the few ingredients listed in the safety data sheet, the impression could be created that the DERMOCOLL adhesive consists only of dextrin and kaolin. This might well be the case in other adhesives which are on the market for preparation or which are mixed by the user. However, dextrin and kaolin are only the components which must be declared in the safety data sheet due to legal requirements. However, the product DERMOCOLL contains other ingredients which do not have to be declared due to the quantities used and the safety aspects to be taken into account by law. In the manufacture of DERMOCOLL, factors such as pH value, pH development during storage, permanent elasticity, reswellability and long-term preservation are taken into account.
