Sea Otter Skull
Inhabiting the coastal kelp beds of western North America, the sea otter is a highly intelligent and inquisitive mammal. It is most famous for swimming on its back and using stones as tools to break open the hard shells of mollusks. Once over hunted because of its thick fur, this endangered relative of the mink is returning to stable population levels thanks to US laws that now protect it. Typically, adult sea otters measure up to 48 inches and can weigh up to 90 lbs.
