The largest of the American 'eared' owls, great horned owls occur in a wide variety of habitats. These nocturnal raptors eat mostly rodents, but they are excellent hunters and will also readily attack and eat other owls and birds of prey, as well as house cats and small dogs. They are the only creatures known to regularly prey on skunks. A group of owls is known as a "parliament."
