Mandrill Baboon Female Skull
Mandrillus sphinx
Mandrill Baboon Skull, Female
Female mandrill baboons are about half the size of their male counterparts and have much duller colors. Both sexes have a mane covering their neck and shoulders. They are terrestrial omnivores, but become tree-dwellers at night. Despite their enormous canines, they generally eat fruit, plants and insects. Although they are sometimes called the forest baboon, mandrills along with their close relative, the drill, belong to their own genus, Mandrillus (and not Papio). They occur in tropical forests of western equatorial Africa. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
