American Crocodile
Crocodylus acutus
American Crocodile Skull
American crocodiles live in southern Mexico, along the Central American coast, the Caribbean and southern Florida. The American crocodile is not able to stand the cold as well as the American alligator, which explains its lack of presence as far north as the alligator. Both the crocodile and alligator can be found in southern Florida. The crocodile's longer and thinner snout makes it easy to tell apart from the darker-colored alligator. The positioning of the eyes, ears and nostrils on the top of the skull allows the crocodile to remain hidden underwater while hunting. Adult males typically grow to 16 feet. 2-part skull (jaw connected with removable hardware).
