The Siberian tiger's claws are retractable, curved, sharp and long, and used to grab hold of prey, mark territory by scratching on trees, for defense and, occasionally, to climb trees. Tigers have five claws, including a vestigial dew claw, on their forefeet, and four claws on their hind feet.
