Gorilla
Gorilla gorilla
Male Gorilla Right Foot (Life Cast).
Gorilla feet are characterized by four toes and a large first toe (also known as a hallux). In most primates the first toe is pseudo-opposable, where the foot is capable of grasping, though not in the same dexterous way as primate hands. When walking on the ground, great apes usually walk on the outside of their foot. In most primates, the distal tips of the toes are covered with flat nails and the plantar surface of the foot is covered with dermatoglyphics (fingerprints). The male gorilla life casts and the gorilla skeleton, SC-028, are cast from the same gorilla. This life cast of a male gorilla foot would be a wonderful addition to any primatology, anthropology or zoology.
