Orangutan (Sumatra-)
Pongo abelii
Male Orangutan Pelvis and Femur
Pelvis and femur from Orangutan Skeleton SC-002. Orangutans are the biggest primate to be arboreal. The female, which may be only half the size of the male, spends more of her time in the trees than does the heavier male. The orangutan's hip, knee and ankle joints are highly flexible. Unlike the African apes, who place their weight on their knuckles when they walk, the orangutan places its weight on its fists (both knuckles and palms).
If you have a preference of right or left side femur, let us know. Otherwise, we will choose.
