Zoology: Anatomy Development (Vertebrates, Invertebrates)

Orangutan (Borneo-)

Pongo pygmaeus
Orangutan Brain
The orangutan is the only ape that is native to Asia and not Africa. It is the least social of the great apes. The average volume of the orangutan brain is 375cc. The fissures and lobes of the human (KO-092) and orangutan brains may be compared and contrasted. While certainly the volume of the human brain is greater than that of any of the great apes, the relative size of some areas of the brain may be similar.
