Bonobo Foot (Life Cast)
Pan paniscus
Bonobo Foot (Life Cast)
Primate feet are characterized by four toes and a large first toe (also known as a hallux). In most primates the first toe is pseudoopposable, where the foot is capable of grasping, though not in the same dexterous way as primate hands. When walking on the ground, great apes usually walk on the outside of their foot. In most primates, the distal tips of the toes are covered with flat nails and the plantar surface of the foot is covered with dermatoglyphics (fingerprints). The life cast of this adult male bonobo foot would be a wonderful addition to any primatology, anthropology or zoology program.
