Cat-like Hoplophoneus primaevus Skull in matrix
Hoplophoneus primaevus skull in matrix CB-19, (Leidy 1851). The type H. primaevus belongs to a group of Oligocene animals that are found throughout the lower Brule (Orellan) and into the upper Brule (Whitneyan). This is a cat-like animal similar to saber-toothed cats. This very rare specimen was discovered in the lower Brule sediments. We are grateful to the Babiarz Institute of Paleontological Studies for the opportunity to cast this individual. 1-part skull (cranium and jaw cast as one piece).
