The ostrich is native to Africa. The largest living bird (7 to 9 feet tall, 200 to 350 pounds) is flightless but can reach speeds of 40 mph on its long, powerful legs. Unusual for a bird, the ostrich has only two toes on each foot, with the larger of the two toes ending with a long sharp claw. Able to defend itself with a powerful kick, it generally escapes danger by running away, using its small wings to help maintain balance. Base included.
