Domestic Cat Skull
Persian cats are among the most recognizable and popular cat breeds in the world, known for their luxurious coats, calm demeanor, and distinctive facial features. However, their hallmark appearance—particularly the shorter than average skulls and flat face—is the result of selective breeding for a condition known as brachycephaly. This condition, which refers to the abnormal shortening and broadening of the skull, is caused by an inherited defect in the development of the skull bones.
This extreme cranial conformation, while aesthetically appealing to some, has led to notable health problems in the breed. Persian cats commonly suffer from breathing difficulties and frequent eye issues due to the distortion of the skull and facial anatomy. This cast would be a valuable addition to any veterinary program and studies involving brachycephalic morphology.
